Peterson Happenings!

Well, in between dr. appointments, tests and more dr. appointments and tests we've been busy with life. Here's an update of all the Peterson Family Happenings the last month.

Future Eshelle!

Gentry and Hallee did the Snow Canyon Eshelle jr. clinic together with Rylee. They practiced for three days and then performed during half time at the Snow Canyon High School boys basketball game. On the first day of practice Gentry came home and told us that her dance has a "shimmy" in it.  She knows that Adam doesn't like his precious little girls out there shaking certain body parts and so she was a little worried about it...so
cute!

Here they are all lined up ready to go dance.  (I was video taping the dance so I didn't get any pictures.) It was so cute, they did a great job and had so much fun being one of the big girls.

Preschool!

We have contined to make progress on the Preschool.

YW Birthdays!

The theme for mutual this year is the 13th Article of Faith. We decided to incorporate this into our Birthday gifts for the Young Women.

How cute are these?

I just LOVE how they turned out.  Between my counselor Kami and I, we were able to put our heads together and come up with this idea.  It's a collage printed on photo paper and then mod podged on to 6x6 tiles. We made 36 of these in all different colors and styles to match their rooms. I just wish my birthday was earlier than November so could get mine!:)

It's not just a hat, it's glasses too!

A few weeks back I was having such a bad day. I was in the kitchen making dinner at the end of this very long, bad day and I hear Gentry coming down the stairs saying "It's not just a hat, it's glasses too." When she came around the corner into the kitchen this is what i saw...

I took one look at her and busted up. I laughed and laughed.  It was just what I needed.

Thanks Gentry for always making my days brighter.

Movie Time

Adam finished his Theater Room, aka Man Cave!

We have spent almost every single night here for the past week, having Family Movie Nights!

The girls are so excited!

Hmm, do you think that's a hint?

Here's what I haven't been doing...dusting
I think my kids are trying to tell me something!

Surgery!

Ablation Surgery
2-23-11
Adam in recovery for 8 hours after surgery.
(Detail of Surgery in different post)

And this is where Adam and I lived for 5 days after his surgery.  He couldn't do much while recovering, so we watched ALOT of movies, put together puzzles, ate too many munchies, visited, laughed and went on a few rides to get Ice Cream Shakes...a must for post surgery.

Ugh!!!

Well, the surgery is over...the good news is Adam is fine and recovering well, the bad news is they weren't able to fix it.  Tuesday night we had Adam's dad, my dad, Adam's brothers: Ben, Micah, and Isaac and our bishop over to give Adam and I blessings.  The blessing were beautiful and we felt confident to move forward. I talked with both my mom and Marilee and together came up with a plan for the girls. Marilee would take the early shift; getting them up, fed and off to school, while my mom was at the hospital with me and then my mom would take the later shift of getting them from school, getting them to their after school activities and keeping them until we got home.  After a sleepless night, we woke up around 5:00am and got ready to head in, surgery was scheduled for 6:00am. While getting ready he had a small episode that just reassured us that he needed this surgery.  Adam's dad followed us in and my mom and dad met us there. We checked in and waited in the waiting room until 6:30.  They took him back and invited us back with him to get prepped.  He got in his ever so sexy gown and got IVs in each hand.  After some further instruction they took him back. I kissed him, wished him luck and then walked down one hall as he headed down another.  We walked to the waiting room and waited.  We knew it could be anywhere from 2-4 hours.  I had brought all kinds of stuff to keep me entertained but could never bring myself to pull anything out.  My mom and I just tried to stay busy by visiting and taking field trips around the hospital.  We walked down to the cafeteria but realized neither of us had an appetite. After almost 3 hours Dr. Jentzer came out to the waiting room to talk to us. He said that Adam was out of surgery and was doing fine. They had taking him to monitor him and that I would be able to see him in an hour. He continued to tell us that they completed the EP study by going in through his groins and neck to his heart and tried everything to get him to go into tachycardia but his heart just wouldn't go. He said that they tried everything they could and then some. They actually ended up doing more than they should of, they poked around his heart for a while and gave him big doses of adrenalin, and nothing worked so they were unable to continue with the actual ablation to the wire.  This was very frustrating to hear. I knew Adam was not going to be a happy camper...that was an understatement...he was livid.  He spent the next couple hours swearing like a sailor.  My dad and I sat in the corner giggling every time he came up with a new cursing phrases.  After a while everyone left so we could be alone.  I totally understood his frustration he had just been put through heck for nothing.  He was in so much pain and now just had to lay there for the next 8 hours.  Dr. Jentzer and Dr. Brizalara both came  by several times to talk to us. The end result was that it is highly unusual for them to see tachycardia on the EKG tests but not to be able to put his heart into it, but they have seen it before. He will have a follow up appointment in a week to talk about other options.  I spent most of the 8 hours texting people back as they texted in with concerns and questions and visiting with friends and family that stopped by.  The best was when the Bishop came in and we told him Adam was going to need to repent after this one.  He just laughed. Needless, to say Adam was thrilled when his 8 hours were up and they sent him home.  He had not eaten for 24 hours straight so on the way home we grabbed some dinner and got home around 8:00pm.  After we were all settled my mom brought out the girls. That first night we all slept in the living room.  Thursday and Friday I got up and got the girls to school and then would come home and just relax with Adam...talk about a vacation. We had a great time.  He has continued to feel better and better and make progress everyday.

Surgery vs Meds...and the winner is...

Sorry, it's takes so long each time for me to update.  I'm usually contemplating whether or not I want to put this on my blog. I'm a pretty closed book kind of a person and feel more comfortable just keeping things on the low down. I'm just not one of those people that likes to make a big deal out of things, mostly, because I've learned that everyone is usually going through something themselves. But I also realize that this is my journal and defiantly something that I need to remember. Especially if this is something we're going to be dealing with in the future with our children. So this is basically just another Journal Entry for myself.
We went to Adam's follow-up appointment last Thursday knowing we would need to make a decision regarding the surgery.  He was supposed to be on  medication for two weeks and then go back in and talk about meds vs surgery. Well,  medication and Adam just do not mix.  They made him "Sleepy" and "Grumpy" and even kinda "Dopey" (ha ha JK about the Dopey part) and also, even on the meds he still had heart flubbers (another technical name I made up) so he made an unauthorized executive decision and stopped taking his meds a week before he should have.  Not surprisingly, he did much better off the meds than on them and was once again "Happy" (okay, I'm done with the seven dwarfs jokes..what can I say, I 've got Disneyland on the brain). So we knew that for Adam meds were not the way to go. So after another EKG test we sat down and talked to the doctor.  We decided that the surgery was the way to go.  We both thought that we'd have a few months before they could get him in and have some time to stew over it but no, they got him scheduled within 2 weeks.  On Wednesday, February 23rd he will go in for the Surgery.  We both felt good about it...well, as good as one can about surgery.  We had been fasting and praying and attending the temple to help us with this decision, so we left comforted and of course had to go to lunch again.  (A perk to having all these doctor appointments has been going to lunch together each time)  I came home and started reading through the packet they gave us and instantly got so scared.  I just sat there and cried. I guess I didn't really think about every little detail that the surgery entails and was surprised with the amount of time it takes and the procedure. We will go in at 6:00am Wednesday morning.  (We're still working out the details for the girls that day but we're hoping Marilee can get them up, dressed fed and to school so my mom can be with me in the waiting room at the hospital and then after the girls get out my mom will take over and get them to all their after school activities and keep them til were home. I'm so thankful that we live so close to family, it makes these situation so much easier) Anyway the test will take about 4 hours.  They will put him under go in through the neck and the groin and run a catheter into his heart.  Then they will bring on an "episode" to see exactly what is causing his heart to race, pound, skip beats and fludder.  There are three different things that it could be and by doing this they will be able to find exactly what it is.  They are 90% sure that one of these three things are causing it.  So, if and when they find the problem they will perform an ablation causing it to stop sending extra signals.  After the surgery he goes into monitoring for 2 hours where he and his heart rhythms are watched and monitored. After that he will go into recovery for 8-10 hours laying flat on his back.  If everything looks great, he can go home that night.  That's what we are hoping for.  Then he will come home and stay down until Monday.  I'm nervous but very excited to spend those five days with him.  We're getting all prepared with movies, munchies, puzzles, crossword puzzles etc.  Adam was so excited to have his theater room done so he could just live up there for a few days but after reading his instructions he's not supposed to climb stairs, so we'll have to camp downstairs for the first few days and then hopefully he'll be able to go up the last few days and enjoy his "Man Cave." Adam is getting pretty nervous, although he covers it well. I'm feeling okay about the actual surgery. I'm not looking forward to watching him get wheeled into surgery and then hanging in the waiting room for 4 hours but, I know he'll be in good hands and even if the worse happens he'll end up with a pacemaker. I know that sounds harsh but I can deal with that, what I can't deal with is any fatal outcomes. So if the worse case scenario is a pacemaker it's dealable. (another of my made up words) The part that makes me the most nervous is when he leaves the hospital to come home for me to take care of. I have a list of things to watch for (blood clots, fever, fainting, irregular heartbeat etc.) and these CAN be fatal so it scares me to death that I might miss something. But we're going into it with prayers, family fasts, blessings and as prepared as we can so we're confident all will be well. It will just be so good to get this taken care!
