Back Story - It had already been a couple of crazy weeks. Isaac was in the hospital in Murray having just had a heart transplant. Adam's uncle Bo had just taken his life, Micah was in the hospital getting bone marrow tests and we had taken 3 day-long road trips in 11 days due to visiting Issac, attending the funeral and going to Flagstaff for the expo. We were just mentally and physically exhausted at this point.
Thursday, May 23rd in the middle of all the above, Adam and I had a funeral to attend, in which Adam was a pallbearer. The funeral was for a friend and ward member Fred Castagne. We were sitting in the funeral when Adam got a text saying that Isaac had just had a stroke and they had taken him to get a CT scan. That alone was stressful but then right before the closing song Adam's phone rang and it was Lyman. We figured he was probably just calling to see if we had heard about Isaac so Adam didn't answer it but texted that he was in a funeral. A few minutes later his dad called again and left a voicemail. Adam was now getting nervous about his dad's call and tried listening to the voicemail during the closing prayer but Lyman was just talking in gibberish. Had Adam not been a pallbearer we would have just left but right then the prayer ended and they invited the pallbearers up. He texted his dad "are you okay" and gave me his phone. He helped take the casket out and was still outside when Lyman texted back "no, I need a ride to the hospital." I found Marilee who was at the funeral as well and told her and she left to run home. I told Adam what was going on and we weren't sure what to do in that moment. Do we stay and go to the cemetery and finish his pallbearer duties or do we leave and see what's going on with Lyman. I called Merilee to see if she was okay and she said no, Lyman was on the floor and she needed help. We found someone to tell that we had an emergency and needed to leave and ran to Lyman's. We found him on the bathroom floor. He had been violently vomiting. Adam picked him up and put him in his truck and drove him to the ER. I drove Merilee in her van behind them to the hospital.
For the next few hours it was just waiting. Waiting on results for Lyman and waiting on how Isaac was doing. We made a few phone calls to siblings and to the bishop to explain. Luckily, he had heard and had already apologized to Fred's wife for us.
In the end, all was well. They released Lyman later than night, having not found anything. Micah was doing much better, just waiting for results. Isaac was touch and go there for a few days but by the time we got up to see him that weekend, he was doing much better and had made huge improvements. It's still amazing to me that they can take a heart out of one person and put it in another and it will work.
Now that we have had a moment to breath, we can laugh about it but for those few hours, we were going nuts. We came home later that night and just sat on the couch and stared at the wall. Haha! So glad everything turned out okay.
