Levi and his brother co-own a company where they build trailers. The only module trailers on the market. They are pretty dang cool. They went to Arizona Thursday - Sunday, May 19-22nd for a trailer expo. Two weeks before they left, Levi invited Adam to go to lunch where he asked for Calli's hand in marriage and Adam gave him our blessing. Levi then told Adam the plan. He was going to stop in the Grand Canyon on the way back from Arizona on Sunday night, (Monday was his birthday) and he told Calli that all he wanted for his birthday was to wake up in the Grand Canyon drink hot chocolate and watch the sun rise. He said that he was going to ask her at the North Rim at Sun Rise and that he wanted us to be there. Adam thought, great, we can just pull up the trailer, camp and make a weekend out of it. He came home and he told me what weekend it was and I kind of laughed and said "well Saturday we will be in Provo for a BYU game coming home Sunday that night we have a seminary graduation and then Monday Gentry has to be to a mandatory graduation rehearsal." We spent the next few days trying to figure out started how we could make it happen and we went back-and-forth with every scenario and we finally decided that we still needed to make Gentry's day important and carry-on with her graduation and refreshments afterwards as usual and that we would get up at 3 o’clock in the morning and drive to the Grand Canyon. We were set. A few days before heading the expo Calli pulled us aside and said that she wanted to surprise Levi for his birthday. She wanted 28 helium balloons tied to pictures on his bed when they got home on Monday. She had everything ready, but needed us to set it up before they got back. Not knowing we were already in on a secret and not knowing how were would accomplish it, we said we'd get it done. :)
We told the girls a once Calli was out of town for the expo on Thursday and headed to Provo Saturday morning for the BYU game. We stayed Saturday to Sunday and woke up early to get home in time for seminary graduation. We got home Sunday around noon, picked the balloons that I had ordered and paid for previously, stopped by Calli's to get the rest of the stuff and went to Levi’s apartment and got it all decorated. We came home, showered, got ready went to seminary graduation and had family over for refreshments that night. The second everybody left we fell into bed so could be up at 3 o’clock the next morning. We had given Gentry the option of missing her rehearsal and coming with us or staying so that she felt more comfortable for her graduation and she thought that she better stay so we told her that we would FaceTime her so heading to the Grand Canyon was just me, Adam and Sadie. We drove to the North Rim following Levi's pin. When we were within a couple hours we saw Levi's brother Ian's truck. We figured that he and Melissa stopped to sleep there too and were hiding in the bushes somewhere. We parked the truck and walked up the hill until we saw Levi's truck. We ducked into the forest. We could see movement but could not tell what was going on. After a few minutes we saw them sitting in chairs watching the sunset...had he done it already...were they waiting for us...if we went now would we ruin the surprise...we waited and watched longer just to be sure. After about 10 minutes of anticipation, we saw him get on his knee and propose. It was so cute. Her hands flew to her fave before he put the ring on her finger. Our little girl was engaged.
We then saw Ian come out of his hiding place. He has been taking pictures of the whole thing. Once we saw him approach them, we knew it was okay to go. We started walking up the road to their campsite and she spotted us. We hugged, cried looked at the ring and hugged so more. She said she was okay until she saw her family and then she lost it. It was so magical. I was so happy that Levi had invited us to be a part of it. Ian left soon after and we hung out and visited for a while. We had brought muffins, bagels and juice, so in enjoyed breakfast, sang happy birthday to Levi, face-timed Gentry (she was soooo excited), talked about the expo and leading up to the engagement. It was so fun to spend that time with them. After a couple hours, we left them to celebrate and we headed to the lodge to check out some views. Sadie opted to stay and sleep in the truck while we ventured out. It was amazing.
What a beautiful day. We pulled back into town around 1:30pm. Took a nap and woke up posts from Calli and Levi letting the world know they were engaged. That night, we all along with Levi's mom April, Step dad Glen and Ian and Melissa went to dinner together at Sakura to celebrate his birthday and their engagement. I am so excite to gain a son -in law. We love him already and they just the cutest together. Congrats Calli and Levi!!! Now let's plan a wedding!!
