My dad had such an amazing opportunity in October 2023. He along with 49 other vets and their guardians flew to Washington DC to be honored and celebrated.
Ben was my dad's guardian.
Landing in the Baltimore airport and being announced.
Vietnam Memorial. This trip was huge for my dad. He rarely talks about his experiences at war or stands when other vets stand so him going on this trip and wearing a Vietnam hat was awesome.
They spend two days touring the nations memorials, attending banquets and being treated like rockstars.
Pointing at a fallen fellow comrade's name from the Vietnam wall.
Always breaking the rules. Haha!
So proud of you dad!!
We drove my mom to the Provo airport Wednesday afternoon for his 8:30pm flight. We had planned to welcome him in and then drive home that night for work the next morning and leave mom there with dad, who had a hotel for the night but...
As we were driving, the flight got delayed one hour due to a bomb threat in Baltimore. No big deal, we could stay an extra hour. As we continued to drive the flight kept getting later and later. By the time we reached the Provo airport, it wasn't coming in until 11:03pm. Which meant we wouldn't get home until 4:00 in the morning and Adam would have to be to work by 5:00. My mom begged us to stay. Adam made a few phone calls but there was no one to cover for him. Curt was out of town, Larry broke his foot and Sean doesn't know how to schedule the guys. Haha! After lots of discussion and tears we decided it was best to get n the road. I was so sad to miss it, but felt we really needed to get on the road. Adam was willing to stay and make it work but I pushed to get home, which is so out of character for me to miss a party, but...we were so glad we got on the road.
Kevin facetimed me so I could still watch my dad walk in and see everyone which was a surprise and I got to talk to him for a minute over the phone. Plus, due to lightning after they landed they were held on the plane for another hour. (We missed ALL the rain) It was after midnight by the time he got off the flight and we were almost to Cedar. We pulled into town just as they were pulling out of the airport, so comforted that we listened to the spirit, even when it's hard and headed home.
