Bryce Canyon

Calli and Sadie decided to run the Bryce Canyon marathon again. This was Calli's 2nd time running it and Sadie's first. They did awesome and we loved being there to cheer them on. Once they were registered, Adam and I decided to make a weekend out of it.

Thursday, July 11th

We drove to Bryce Canyon. Arriving around 4:00pm. We found a boondocking camping spot and set up camp. As we were setting up, we found that the fridge was not working...not good, because, with the family coming, the fridge was packed. We worked on it for about an hour before googling it and finding there is a reset button. Haha! Worked like a charm.

We drove into town and ate at the little cafe and then walked the town. We had taken Ky with us. Sadie wanted him there for her marathon, but all the kids and Koda would be driving up together and wasn't room for both dogs. We were a little worried with this being his first camping trip. But he did sooo good!

Later that night, we took a razor ride to a point to watch the sunset. Came back to camp and snacked, played games and watched a movie.

Friday, July 12th

We woke up bright and early, had our traditional omelet breakfast, packed some snacks and the camel bak and headed out on a 40 mile razor ride and hike. Our goal was to ride to Losee Canyon and hike, something we had tried before but couldn't get through the gate. We decided to try again. It is such a fun ride with amazing views but we reached the same dead end. This time we called the number on the sign to ask how much trouble we'd be in, if we just bypassed the sign and went around it, once the dispatcher knew we were in a razor and not a full size vehicle, she said go for it. So glad we called because it was such a beautiful ride. It felt like we were riding thorough the park. It was so cool, with it's high red cliffs and canyons. We loved it. But we also understood why the sign was there. The trail was no wider than 50 inches and there were a few sketchy places. At one spot, Adam said "let me know if my tires go off the trail" I immediately said "ya, they are off" he kept going. I said "I guess you don't care" Haha! We made it to Losee Canyon, with no problems. I had read that the canyon was 2.5 miles in and 2.5 miles out but once we hit 3 miles in, with no end in sight, we decided to turn around and head back. It's a good thing we did, because when I was reading about it later, it's a 15 mile loop. It was a great hike though, so pretty. It was pretty warm, but we took a long snack break in the shade and found a fresh mountain spring where we splashed our faces. We were glad to have found it and hiked it. We razored back the same way we came. We got back to camp and rinsed off, rested for a bit. Then headed to tropic to pick up the girls packets. On the way back we stopped at Loseeville. This is where my 3rd great grandpa Isaac Huff Losee settled. The only thing left is a cemetery where he, his wife and a couple children are buried, along with a few other community members. It was cool to see.

We went back to camp and relaxed, played games, watched movies, made dinner and waited for the kids to arrive. They all pulled in around 8:30 pm. We ate Hawaiian haystacks, visited and got Calli and Sadie all ready for tomorrows race. With an early morning the next day, we tried to tuck in early but it was around 11:00pm before we all got bedded down.

Good Morning!

The dreaded sign!

Someone had brought in a more modern headstone for him and his wife Sarah Gilbert. Not much to see but glad we made the detour.
Back and camp and time to relax after our busy day or riding and hiking

Saturday, July 13th Race Day!

We woke up at 4:30am, so we could have them to the starting line by 5:15am. We dropped them off and headed to Cannonville where the race ends. The marathon started at 6:00am. We figured we had close to 2 hours before they would be coming in, so took naps in the trucks before heading to the finish line. We sat out a blanket and ate muffins and grapes while we tracked them. They crossed the finish line together with a time of 2:05. So awesome. They said mentally, it was harder than the St George marathon. But they did so great! We hung out at the park for a bit and then returned to camp.

We had a lazy day or napping, playing games, watching movies, relaxing in the hammocks, reading and eating lunch and dinner. After dinner, the kids headed out to drive home.

Adam and I were exhausted and headed to bed.
