October 4th was a crazy morning...
Adam and I woke up to Gentry saying there was a fire in the backyard. At first we both assumed it was on Utah hill or something until Gentry emphasized "in the backyard" Haha. We jumped out of bed and sure enough there was fire that had ignited in the backyard by the shed. We scrambled for a minute trying to throw on some clothes and run outside. Luckily, Carter had come at 6:00 am to pick up Gentry (another blessing) He never picks up Gentry that early, but on this particular morning, Kira (Carter's bosses wife) had asked Gentry to babysit their little boy Max. He picked her up on his way to the ranch. As he pulled out of his neighborhood, he could see the flames. As he pulled into the driveway he found that it was coming from our house. He called Gentry and then jumped the wall and had the hose spraying water on it by the time Adam and I got outside.
It was large enough and getting close to Lyman's awning that we called 911. By the time they got there, we had gotten the fire under control...but they came anyway, with their sirens and lights a blazing. Haha!
The firemen were able to get it the rest of the way out and then put lasers on it to make sure there were no more hot spots.
Once the fire was out, we were able to see the damage. Not much, thankfully. We lost the entire wood pile, the side of the shed melted, lost several buckets containing briquettes and a couple of huge water barrels. It could have been sooo much worse, so we are counting our blessings.
We are still unsure how it started. At first the firemen wondered it a spark struck in the barrel that Adam had been burning weeds in 3 days before but nothing in the barrel was burned. There was also a cord from Lymna's side of the fence that was found in the rubble that could have possibly sparked but still not sure.
So thankful that Kira had asked Gentry to babysit that morning, so thankful that Carter had come to pick her up that early in the morning and jumped into action so quickly and so thankful it was not worse. After looking at where it burned, it was so close to jumping the jump into Lyman's yard, had it reached the pine trees it would have been a totally different story. Blessings!!
