We started the week out with a successful family home evening lesson. (love those when they happen, to bad it's not very often) It was adapted by a talk given by Boyd K. Packer at the last General Conference about snakes that hide in seemingly safe places and how Satan often sends snakes to invade seemingly safe places in our own lives.
I hid snakes all over the house in "seemingly safe places" and then they had to find them and then we talked about how that place that seems safe could actually be harmful if we let it.
(Computer-internet, closet-modesty, phone-gossip, fridge-word of wisdom, stereo-music etc.) As we talked about each snake it turned into a big discussion and we ended family home evening late that night after about 2 hours. I love those moments where the girls are in the mood to talk and discuss and answer. It was a good night. For dessert we had dirt cups with gummy worms.
Thursday night we had soccer games. While at the game we got a call from Tavin saying that he had received his mission call. We didn't believe him at first because he just turned his papers in a week and a half ago. But sure enough he got it. They were waiting until the next day to open it, so we invited all the family over for the BYU game to then to face time with Tavin for the big reveal.
(Pictures from the game:)
It. was. FREEZING. I don't know how the girls played in it. We were all huddled in blankets and were still cold. They were out running around in it, and to make matters worse it was so windy with gusts of about 40 MPH winds. It was so funny as soon as Calli would sub-out she would run towards Jadyn. (who was in a blanket on the sidelines) Jadyn would see her coming, open up her blanket and let her jump in.)
All the girls wrapped in their blankets at halftime.
Adam down on the field chatting with Calli after the game. Luckily, the cold weather was worth it, we came away with the win.
The Big Reveal:
They called right at half-time during the game...what perfect timing.
Everyone gathered around the I-pad anxiously waiting for Tavin to open his letter.
Bakersfield, California
Leaving January 8th.
Congrats Tavin! We are so excited for you!
On Saturday in between conference sessions we went down and cheered in Micah and Michelle at the marathon. They and a group of their friends were running the race in honor of their friend Braydon that had just passed a month before. Instead of going for PR's they ran it at Braydon's pace which was usually towards the end of the pack. It was cool seeing all of them run by in their matching "Booyah" shirts.
After Conference we went out to "Hell Hole" and hiked to the canyon. (Haha we thought it was fitting. JK )
It was so pretty!
Hiking into the mouth of the canyon.
Playing in the Sand Dunes.
The girls came across tons of tiny frogs.
Adam came across a "Recliner Rock"
The girls checking it out.
Rock Slide
Sadie and her stick "Aunt Fran." She tried hauling this all the way back.
At the truck after our hike the girls emptied their shoes to see who had collected the most sand.
On Sunday, we enjoyed both sessions of conference and Adam's yummy outdoor breakfast and BBQ lunch/dinner.
This conference I made each of the girls their own "Conference Bag"
In it was goodies with notes attached to them to inspire them to listen.
They also each got little journals to keep notes in and some fun scrapbook supplies to decorate the front cover. I really tried to tie General Conference and Personal Progress together for Sadie so she could pass off a few experiences. She ended up passing off a 10-hour project by listening to all 4 sessions, taking notes and decorating her journal.
It was a great week.
