We have had a very rainy August and September so far and have seen quite a bit of flooding. However the first flood we had at our home had nothing to do with the rain...

Inflatable chair in the shower = Disaster.
It was around 11:00 pm by the time we were finally getting settled for bedtime. Sadie and Gentry had gone up to take a shower in our master bath...What we didn't know is that they decided to have a "shower pool party" as well...
As we were locking up and making our rounds through the house, we heard something sounding like running water. We had a waterfall running out of the vent in the basement. It didn't take us long to find out where it was coming from. The girls had put the chair in the shower with them and had it sitting on top of the drain. Apparently, they were having too much fun to notice that the water was draining out of the shower onto the bathroom floor and making it's way into our bedroom.
We got all the water turned off and began tracing the water trail.
We had to take off the bathroom door off so we could pull up the carpet.
The water had puddled upstairs until it found a seam in the wood flooring, and followed a path to the vent downstairs. We mopped it up the best we could, pulled up carpet, set up heaters and fans and drilled holes in the basement ceiling to help with the draining. The girls were shocked to see the outcome of just a little shower party.
We did however get to turn it into a family sleepover n the living room.
Flood #2 September 9, 2014
Southern Utah had another 1000 year flood.
It dumped on Ivins leaving us with more than 3 inches of rain in just a few hours. It was such a teaser storm too. It would let up, the sun would come out and the sky would start to clear and then before we knew it was raining again.

We were lucky and didn't end up having any flooding inside the house and only sustained minor damage. Others were not so lucky. Including Red Mountain and Snow Canyon Middle. Both Sadie and Gentry's rooms got flooded resulting in lots of damage, having to go to another room and quite an interesting day.
Sadie's classroom!
That night the news was full of stories about houses flooding, roads being closed, roads collapsing, damage around town and people pitching in to help others out in the community.
