Sadie's Choir Concerts!

Sadie had two choir concerts a week apart. They were both patriotic concerts. The first one was at the tabernacle and was for all the "Hero's in our Community"  It was fantastic. The songs were amazing. I got a little choked up a few times.
My parents are awesome at supporting their kids and grand kids at everything they do but being a patriotic concert I made sure to invite them. My dad fought in the Vietnam war and I really wanted him there to be honored.
At a certain point during the concert they sang the different military songs from each unit. During each military song any members of that unit were asked to stand and any members of the choir that had family in those units raised their hands. It was neat to see my dad stand for the Army song and have Sadie and Jaicelyn both raise their hands for their grandpa. (Grandpa Peterson served in the Navy, so although he couldn't be there because he is on a mission, Sadie raised her hand then as well.)

A week later the SCMS choir was asked to sing at the closing ceremonies of the "Healing Wall": A replica of the wall in Washington DC with all 58,000 names of the those who died in the Vietnam War.

Again they asked the veterans to stand and be honored.
After seeing me snap a picture of my dad, Terry wanted a picture taken of him too. So, here is my brother being patriotic!
After the concert we went and checked out the wall. We had seen it once before when it had come to St. George but it was good to see it again and be reminded of all those who gave their lives and to also listen to some of the stories from my dad.  Growing up he was pretty quiet when it came to talking about Vietnam, but the last few years he become more vocal. He talks about it more, shares his stories and experiences more, has been interviewed by a magazine to share his story of the battle he was in and has been to a couple Vietnam Veterans reunions.

It was great to go to the concerts and listen to the songs and stories and just feel proud to be an American!
