Talk about a whirlwind!
A month before cheer try-outs Sadie came to us and mentioned that she was thinking about trying out for Cheer. She was missing dance a little bit and was also very nervous about soccer this year with the amount of girls trying out and no more C team. (Sounds like there might be quite a few cuts) We talked to her about it and the pros and cons and encouraged her to go for it. She had nothing to lose, if she didn't make cheer she could dive back into soccer. She was so nervous about what her friend would think. (They're the ones who talked her into soccer in the first place) She was worried they would be upset and try and talk her out of it. So she decided to move forward without telling anyone. Not even grandma knew. As try-outs got closer we decided the best move was to get Aspen and Brynn involved. They are some of Sadie's good friends and Seniors on the cheer team. Aspen is Daisy's sister, so Daisy ended up being the only friend that knew and her cousin Kassi who is up north and a cheerleader as well. It proved to be a game-changer. Aspen and Brynn were beyond excited for her and jumped on board. They made up her individual dance, helped her, coached her, critiqued her and dolled her up for try-outs. We could not have done it without them. It was a long couple of weeks. The week of try-outs there was a try-out clinic where they teach the girls a group dance, a group cheer and jumps on top of their individual dance. It was a lot to take on. She had extremely late nights up until at least midnight every night practicing and then up early for school. By the end of the week she was exhausted mentally, physically and emotionally. It was an intense week. We were just praying all her hard work would pay off.
Daisy was amazing and supported Sadie from the very beginning, she brought over flowers the night before try-outs for good luck and came to tryouts as well.
Try-outs
March 31, 2017
All the girls trying out
Stretching before try-outs.
Tryouts are open tryouts so we could go watch. It was nerve wracking. I knew she could do it, just hoping her nerves wouldn't get in the way.
She was #13 out of 29 girls. She first came out with a partner (she was lucky to have been paired with one of her friends Chloe Derrick) Together they did the cheer, then they each stepped forward separately and did their jumps and then together they did the group dance.
Oh my gosh! SHE NAILED IT. She hit everything perfectly. Calli and I started crying and turned around to see Daisy crying too. She was fantastic. Next up was her individual dance. She she great. She missed a couple counts but just kept on going and got back on track without missing a beat. I barely noticed. Had the coaches noticed I think they would have been impressed that she covered it so well. She was a little teary afterwards as she was worried about her individual dance, I'm sure pure exhaustion had something to do with the tears as well. All her hard work came down to this. I really felt she had a great chance and that she did everything she could and deserved it. She couldn't have done any better.
A few pics right after try-outs
Sadie and Daisy
Her sisters and biggest supporters.
Incredibly proud mom! Adam was on a huge job and just couldn't get away.
Brynn and Aspen
Partner and friend Chloe
They had a few hours to wait until the results were posted. We all left and went to Menchies to get her mind off of it,.By the time we got home we still had an hour to go. Adam and I kept refreshing the blog page...just to see. But before the results were even posted we heard a huge bang, bang, bang on the front door. I opened the door to see Aspen, Brynn and Daisy on the front porch screaming. I joined right in with them and got emotional again. Before I could get up the stairs to get Sadie she was already on her way down.
She was so excited!!
They put on her new SC Cheer shirt, blindfolded her and kidnapped her.
They were all taken to the school where they took off their blindfolds to reveal all who made it and then celebrated.
She came home around 10:00 to a congratulations Cheesecake.
As the night went on friends started getting the news and calling. She was so relieved to hear that they were all so excited for her...and shocked!
Kada and Daisy came over to celebrate with her! Haha! So thankful for such good, supportive fiends for my girls. We had my mom and dad come over as well and broke the news. They were so surprised but thrilled. We gave them a Warrior Booster Club Membership so they could attend all the home games and watch her cheer. Luckily they weren't too mad that we didn't tell them either. Overall, it was a great night full of excitement. That night we all crashed and were able to sleep in the next morning to make up for incredibly intense and tiring week.
CONGRATS SADIE! We are so proud of you. You just continue proving that you can do anything you put your mind too Way to Go!
