March 19-22, 2020
We had planned for months to go camping again over Spring Break with the Cains and Borrowmans to Coral Pink. With everything going on in the world with Covid-19 it ended up being the perfect time for a perfect getaway! It was so nice to get away from the news for a while. We had no service and actually had to keep reminding ourselves that there was chaos still happening in the "outside world' It was Heavenly.
First camping trip with the Razor. It fit just right...barely!
Our caravan heading to the dunes.
We went to the same spot as last year! It is so nice with a trailer because we can get away from everything and everybody. We don't need bathrooms or water hook-ups so we can completely seclude ourselves.
We "circled up our wagons" making a triangle with the trailers with the center for gathering. This was out my front door. The kids even made stepping stones from one trailer to the next.
As soon as we got set-up and ate lunch we hit the trails.
Before long we were headed through uncharted territory to the dunes. The sand was perfect. It had just rained and was more adhesive than dry sand. We could go higher on the dunes and stay up longer before starting to slide. The three guys were in heaven hooting and hollering as they sped up the next hill.
It was only about 30 minutes into our ride when it took a bad turn. Ryan who is always so careful and circles around to look at the hills before attempting them just got too excited and took off for a big hill. He did not see the dip before the hill and went flying straight out and came down hard.
He left about 30 feet of sand with zero tracks as he was flying through the air. Needless to say his machine was broke for the remainder of the trip. He busted his radiator and the front end of his CanAm.
Tyson towing it back to camp with the jeep. Luckily, we still had a razor and jeep so not all was lost, we just took turns going out instead of all together.
That night we got snow.
Adam and Ryan were both out knocking the falling snow off of their awnings so we could close them up for the night.
Jenni and I were both standing in our doorways recording them and laughing.
When I turned around I saw this...One of my favorite memories. Gentry sitting there sipping her hot chocolate in the trailer with snow falling outside. She was the only one that came up the first day. (Calli came up Friday and Sadie ended up staying with Kell to work on her hair school presentations and test that she has to pass to get licensed.) She is such a good caboose. She is so much fun and we love hanging out with just her.
The next morning we woke up to snow. It was so pretty from the inside of a nice warm and cozy trailer. We all slept really well. I actually had to kick off my blankets because it got too warm.
The weather didn't stop or slow us down. We headed out that afternoon, taking our lunch with us on an excursion. We drove to the wind tunnels and went exploring.
Gentry and Emma. She was so happy to have someone her age this time.
Heading into the caves.
They were so cool!
All the kids minus Liam!!
Hey, look what I found.
The walls were so colorful
and soft. You could make an impression in the wall just by rubbing your finger against it.
The outside views were just as awesome as the inside.
This is Gentry and I on one side...
looking at Adam on the other.
Me and Jenni
While exploring the caves it started to snow again.
Coming down the mountain in the light snow.
Adam helping Ava Borrowman. It was so funny watching him trying to grab her, she was sliding all over the place but wanted to do it by herself. He finally caught her and did not let go. He held her hand until we got to the bottom. He later said it was like trying to catch a garbage sack in the wind, you never know which direction it's going to go. It was so cute and funny. Glad everyone made it down without any incidences.
As soon as we reached the bottom, it stopped snowing.
So we decided to go on another adventure. Ryan had heard about a midget farm. It was a ranch built by little people. We decided to join the quest and go looking for it. After about 2 miles and several switch backs later, we never did find the ranch...or the little people.
But the view was awesome.
On the way back down, Lori started to get a blister, she hiked the rest of the way with on shoe on and one shoe off...what a trooper. I had to snap a pic.
Just as we were pulling back into camp, so was Calli and Jason. We ate dinner, played games, chatted around the camp fire and tucked ourselves into bed around midnight.
The next morning, we did a combined breakfast. Pancakes, hash browns, sausage, bacon, fruit and juice. Adam cooking our contribution.
Tyson and Lori cooking theirs
and Ryan cooking theirs.
It was a feast.
Gentry hanging out with Liam. He is just 3 and had stole all of our hearts by the end of the trip.
Another view of our campsite!
After Breakfast we went to the dino tracks.
Calli singing "Just around the riverbend"
The afternoon was full of Razor rides, games, hanging out, chatting and...
a cornhole tournament. Ryan and Jenni dethroned us and are the reining champs.
After dinner we celebrated Adam's 45th birthday with cake and ice cream.
Blowing the candles out with a knife instead of his breath, corona has made us all be extra careful about everything.
More late night games! The adults would end up in Ryan and Jenni's trailer and the kids in ours. Which was pretty funny since Gentry was our only kid.
Cali and Jason zonked out early that night, tired from their sand dune Razor ride.
The next morning, was such a nice day. Adam and I got up before everyone and went out on a Razor ride. We took off on a trail and drove for miles before returning to get everyone up.
We were in no hurry to head back to life. We cleaned and packed up and then sat around and visited and played more games.
Adam pulling the Razor back in to head home.
Love that he has to "Duke of Hazard" it to get out.
We pulled in around 5:00pm. and to our surprise, we found that Sadie had decorated for Adam...so cute! We cleaned out the trailer, started on laundry, ate dinner and had dessert to celebrate Adam's birthday. I don't think he could have had a better day, out doing what he loves, with the people he loves most. For his Birthday he got a new windshield for his Razor before we went and then got Ford vs Ferrari while we were camping.
And Austin gave him this. Happy Birthday babe and Happy Spring Break to the rest of us. Days after, we kept saying we were ready to go back. It was so much fun!! If this was any indication of what social distancing will be like...count us in. It was so nice getting away and we couldn't have spent it with better company.
