In pure Peterson style, we managed to make the simple task of buying a couch into a huge ordeal…
We had been looking for a new couch to replace the one in our theater room that we had had for 25 years. It was the first purchase Adam and I made together right after we were married. When we found this one at Costco it was just what we were looking for and in our price range. Being a Thursday and just stopping in, we didn’t have a trailer so we planned on going back on Saturday, just two days later to pick it up.
Kinda sad to see it go, but it was time.
We were able to get the first two pieces down the stairs without too much trouble but when it came to moving the piece with the two recliners, it proved to be quite difficult.
We had gotten it upstairs 15 years prior so we figured we could get it down but with the narrow stairwell, sconce on the wall, handrail and banister there were a lot of obstacles. We tried lifting, pivoting, twisting and turning with no luck…
So we did the next logical thing…we cut it in thirds.
Worked like a charm and I was actually really surprised I wasn’t more upset about it:)
As Adam was cutting, I remember asking him “what if the couch is gone, when we get there!” We just laughed…
As we cut the couch up we found the “orange juice incident of 2006” haha! When Gentry was three years old she was carrying around a can of orange juice concentrate, looking for me to make it for her but somewhere along the way she got distracted and set it on top of the couch. It feel down inside the recliner, where it stayed until we found it due to the smell coming from the couch haha!
Much easier to move it in pieces.
With the couch now in 6 pieces instead of 3 we headed to JPS to dump it before heading to Costco. You can imagine our surprise when we got to Costco to find the couch had already been sold. It took us a minute to collect ourselves as we realized we had just cut up our couch and put it in the dumpster and now there was not a couch to bring home. We went and talked to customer service where they told us we could still order it online but it would cost us $800 more for shipping and delivery. We decided to give it the week to think about it. We had already looked at several places in town and had never found anything close to what we were looking for so we had almost resulted in just paying the extra...I'm sure glad we didn't. We had told a friend at work about our couch incident and they sent us to Downtown Furniture. Somewhere we had not looked yet and Adam actually knew the owner.
We walked in and I knew we were going to find our couch. Every sectional was just like the one in Costco where it came in 6 pieces so we could arrange it however we would like. But they had a huge selection to choose from. I narrowed it down to two and then chose this one.
We also found this bar that we fell in love with for the theater room too. We got both for the price of the Costco couch. Score!!
They delivered it two days later and I am in love!!
It has 3 automatic recliners=heaven
The bar!
It was the perfect addition to the room. I had so much fun rearranging and moving things around until everything was just right!
We have found ourselves going up stairs just to hang out even when there's not a movie or a game on!
That same night, after we got it all set up BYU played. We loved kicking it in the new and improved theater room and enjoying the game. So glad that the Costco couch was gone when we went to get it, even though we were distraught at the time, because an even bigger and better couch came along, with it's accompanying bar. Tender Mercies. Another testament that God's knows more and better than we do.
So Blessed!
