Nauvoo Day 6

  Day 6 - Tuesday, June 3, 2025

Those of us that are endowed, began our day with a session in the Nauvoo Temple. So so amazing. The inside was so pretty and had all the little touches of the original temple. After our session, while the boys drove into Keokuk, to fix a flat tire on the van, us girls and grandpa walked and self-toured the inside of the temple. There was a "hall museum" with original sacred artifacts, which was so amazing to see.

After the temple and Adam and Levi made it back from fixing the tire, we did a wagon ride that went down main street and by the major sites, while telling fun little incites about each. After the wagon ride, we, walked main street and explored all the "Pioneer Life" Sites. The Browning Gun Shop, The Tin Shop, The Bakery, The Post Office, The Printing Office, The Family Living Center, The School House, The Cultural Hall and several other apostles homes.

We ran until the sites closed again at 5:00pm, squeezing as much in as possible. That night we went shopping some more. We found so many fun Nauvoo Souvenirs: shirts, socks, ties, tie pins, puzzles, tin lantern, cow pie Frisbee, stickers, etc. It was while we were shopping at the Mercantile when all of our phones went off at the same time, alerting us of a tornado warning. The employees, said for everyone that would like to, could go into the basement. I was tempted...being my first tornado warning, it was pretty nerve racking, but no one else went down, so we just continued shopping. We then walked to the Red Front Restaurant again for dinner. Almost as soon as we walked in to the restaurant, the storm hit. We texted the kids that had ran up to the apartment and told them to come down until it blew over. They literally had to run like 12 steps and busted through the doors soaking wet. It gave us all a good laugh. The storm was crazy. Felt like we were all in a car wash. There were several people there taking shelter with us, including some missionaries. They all seemed pretty calm which helped us stay calm. The owner of the restaurant and the apartment we were staying in, had his computer out and was tracking the storm. He said we didn't really need to worry until the sky grew green. Haha!

The storm blew over after about 30 minutes. That the only time it rained our entire trip but it was a good one. That night, we played games and ate munchies until way too late.

After our session, while the boys took the van to get fixed.

Another view of the temple...seriously one of my favorite parts was always finding the temple no matter where we were. So many homes were built to face the temple

Thought this was interesting. Every site had a Tornado shelter location list.
Blacksmith Shop
Learning how they built the wagons
Boot Shops. There were several shoe shops in town.
Cute School House.

Changing the tire on the van...never a dull moment.
Driving up the hill from historic Nauvoo, past the temple and to Mulholland Street.
