Day 7, Wednesday, June 4, 2025 (Last Day)
While some us wanted to sleep in and get packed up, the rest of us headed out again to see some of the things we may have missed. We made it to the temple quarry, the pioneer cemetery where Bishop Edward Partridge and my great, great, great grandpa David Losee is buried. We then went through Heber C Kimball's House and Wilford Woodruffs house. (Asking for the cliff note version of the tour because we had a plane to catch) haha! While driving out and about, we saw several downed trees from the storm and heard that the tornado had touched down on the other side of the river.
We got back to the apartment around 11:00am. Finished packing up and hopped in the van for our 3 hour trek back across Missouri to the airport. We had been to 3 states, Missouri, Iowa, and Illinios. Our chance to enter Kansas, (so we could mark off another state) was only 10 miles from the airport. We were racing just to get to the airport, but we couldn't pass up the opportunity. We mostly drove in silence as everyone was on pins and needles if we'd actually make it or not. We made it...4 states and 900 miles!!
We returned the rental van and had two flights home getting home at midnight.
I can't even say, how amazing this trip was. So fun. The kids did great. Grandma and grandpa did great. We got to see everything we hoped to see and the spirit was so strong. So glad we were finally able to get to Nauvoo....I miss it already.
Temple Quarry
Temple Sun Stone
Pioneer Cemetery. It was a drive to get there and then a hike.
Edward Partridge Burial
Really old tree stump.
Downed Trees right on Main Street
Heber C Kimball Home
Lyon's Drug Store
Seventies Hall. This building was closed while we were there, but we had at least see it.
Where Newel K Whitney's house stood.
Where Porter Rockwell lived.
Patti Sessions Cabin. There were 300 brick homes/structures but there were six times that, that were wood homes/structures.
Orson Hyde's Home
Pioneer Women's signatures on a quilt.
Actual light.
About Orson's many missions...
Wilford Woodruff Home.
While on his mission to England, Wilford Woodruff, baptized my great, great, great grandmother Ann Jewel Rowley, who later crossed the plains with the Willie Handcart Company.
Original China
Wilford's original hat box
Original Chairs
Original wall
Original Flooring
One of the first folding beds.
Bricks. Wilford Woodruff came home from a mission during the construction of his home and did not like the color of the bricks, so they changed them but left the originals.
One last stroll down Mulholland Street.
I loved it here. I could feel the city's energy and it matched my own.
One last glance of the Nauvoo Temple.
Mississippi River.
Leaving Nauvoo.
Hannibal is where Mark Twain grew up and where Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn were inspired from.
Pit Stop.
Train
The cemetery's across Missouri are so cool. A lot of them are just off the freeway on hills.
More cool bridges
Missouri River
Proof, we made it to Kansas. Haha!
Back across the bridge to Missouri.
Airport Shuttle.
We all played Crazy Eights against each other on the plane.
On our flight from Salt Lake to St George, we were with Elder Randolph from our ward, who was just returning from Honduras.
It was another rough flight. We were glad to be on the ground. We made it. Four States, 900 mile road trip, ten people and one van!! Such an amazing trip that we will never forget.
