Licensed Cosmetologist

Friday, June 20, 2020 - Sadie graduated back in March and then Covid hit. The testing centers and salons closed down so she was unable to take her tests. She was so worried that she would forget everything she learned. We had no idea when she could take her test again. In May things started to open up and Kell and Sadie started prepping for their test. There are 3 three tests. The first two was the one she was most nervous about. It's pretty intense. They had articulately put a kit together with everything they would need for the test and everything had to be board certified. They would be given 5 clients and in front of a panel of judges they had to do cuts, colors, nails etc. Talk about nerve racking. She was soooo nervous and worked her butt off getting everything ready and studying.  Her test was from 9:00am - 2:00pm. She texted our family group chat around 2:00 pretty deflated saying that she didn't think she passed. She continued to text us all the things she thought she messed up on. She also said she had to wait 48 hours for the results. It was going to be a long weekend. I was at work still when my email chime on my phone went off around 2:30. I noticed the email was from the company she took the test through. The subject of the email said "results"...what, I had forgotten that we used my email to register.  But how could the results being coming already. It had only been an hour. I hesitantly opened my email and gave out a shout and ran outside to call Sadie.

84% in Barber and 86% in Cosmetology. It was so fun to play with her for a minute. I called her and she answered with a sad hello. I said so you don't feel good about it huh? And she went on about how bad she thought she did and she just knew that she hadn't passed. I then said,"Well guess what? Congratulations, you passed. You got a 84% and a 86%. She did not believe me. She thought that maybe it was a joke or they mixed the test results up with someone else. I had to forward her the email before she would believe me. She was ecstatic.
On my way home from work I grabbed balloons and a banner to decorate her room.
She was still on cloud 9 when she came home that night.
Two tests down, one more to go. But the worst was now behind her. She spent the rest of the weekend studying for her written exam. Austin was a good sport to help her study.
On Monday, June 21st she took her written exam. We thought she was kidding when she texted that she didn't pass but soon found out she missed it by 1%.  1%? ugh. She had to get a 70% and got a 69%. She was pretty sad but knew it wouldn't be that big of a deal to take it again.
On July 1st, she attempted it a second time and passed with flying colors. She got a 79%. She was so happy. It was like a weight had been lifted off her shoulders...she was almost to the finish line. Last thing to do was go into Evans, talk to Mr. E and get her license.
IT'S OFFICIAL!! On July 9th Sadie got her license and is now a licensed cosmetologist. After 2,001 hours, 3 tests and lots of tears and laughter later, she did it!!

"Don't BLOW it all in one place"

Congrats Sadie Jae! Could not be more proud of you! Next up for Sadie is, hopefully getting a job at a salon. She is holding out for Solutions where 4 of her good friends work.  Until a spot becomes available she's going to keep working at Pizza Factory and save money for a car!! My little girl is adulting!!
