Day 9 Homeward Bound

Thursday, February 29, 2024

The next morning we got up early, finished packing, went down for breakfast, and then checked out, jumped on the metro and made our way to the airport, which was about an hour away. Being a Thursday Morning, the Metros were packed with everyone going to work. We had divide into twos and each pair jump on a different car, we all managed to get off on the right stop. We sure loved Madrid.

The Madrid airport was huge, and we had to go from one side of it to the other so even though we’d given ourselves two hours, by the time we got to our terminal we only had about an hour before boarding, not to mention Gentry got pulled out of line for a random search and we had to wait for her…of course, out of all of us that could be chosen it was Gentry. She handled it well. Once we got to our terminal we had to show our boarding pass to get to our gate and anytime we wanted to leave our gate to go to the bathroom or get a drink we had to show it again to get out and back in. Our departure was at 11 o’clock and our flight was a 10-hour flight to Atlanta. We were not looking forward to this long flight but it turned out not being as bad as we all thought it would be. It was SO nice to be back on American soil.  We had a two hour layover in Atlanta . All the kids noticed the difference between Americans and Foreigners. They said that Americans were just nicer in general.

My cold took a turn and I felt miserable. While everyone else went and got Popeyes for dinner, I got more medicine, a smoothie and wrapped up in our Disney Paris blankets and slept on the floor. For our flight from Atlanta to Las Vegas we were all spread out and it was probably the roughest flight of the flights but where I wasn’t feeling good I pretty much slept the whole time but everybody did great and survived.  We landed in Vegas at 7:30pm Vegas time, 8:30pm Utah time.  And we were so exhausted. The last thing I wanted to do was drive two hours home, but we did it. Adam drove to Mesquite and then was getting tired so I drove the rest of the way home singing my guts out trying to keep me awake. We pulled in about 11:30 PM showered and climbed into bed so happy to be home. The next few days were a little bit rougher than usual just dealing with jet lag because we were all coming home with coughs and colds.  Adam and I went to work Friday but then Saturday and Sunday I slept both days away. I can’t even tell you how much fun we had and how awesome it was to see Calli’s mission, tour two different countries, go to a FC Barcelona game, and to Paris Disneyland all in one vacation. It was exhausting but the absolute best time.
