Alaskan Cruise Day 3 - Juneau

Sunday, September 11, 2022 - Day 3
JUNEAU
You know it's gonna be a good day when your daily app calendar looks like this!
Still cruising to Junuea with an expected arrival at noon.
Watched the sun rise in the Solarium.

While watching the sunrise, we noticed this boat get closer and closer to the ship. It docked with us made a transfer and drove off. Not sure if someone got on or off but it was pretty entertaining.

Spotted the captain in his quarters this morning.
So cool!
Amazing views as we approached.

Lots of waterfalls.
People starting to leave us notes. Wonder who said "Go BYU" haha!

Hid a couple ducks as we wandered.
Because we still had a few hours until we disembarked, we started a top to bottom, forward to aft self- guided ship tour. Deck 16 Spa and Salon.

Lovely carpet transformation from 16 to 15. This is the only place I saw this.
Deck 15 is the Fitness Center. Sea Plex, Flow Rider, and NorthStar.

Looking down to the outdoor Pool
Kiddie Pool.
As we were walking around, the captain came on and reminded everybody what day it was...September 11th. He honored those men and women that lost their lives and then asked for a moment of silence. It was so cool. People, where ever they were, stopped. Some bowed their heads and some put their hands over their hearts. You could tell the people that weren't American or who didn't speak english because they would walk by and look so surprised not knowing what was going on.

Arcade

Sea Plex

Running Track

Windjammer, Solarium, Indoor Pool Deck and Teens Space.

The indoor pool was doing water aerobics. The girls stopped to watch for quite a while.
Solarium. Walking from the front to the back.
Pool Deck
Fish & Ships. This is the only place we never ended up eating at because we had fish and chips in Skagway and in the dining room one night.
Back deck and outdoor seating for the windjammer. Another hidden gem.

Wind Jammer. Huge buffet with themed nights and everything you can think of. This was where we could always find cookies. Which for someone reason we always craved and went on the hunt.

Cute little sitting area. At one point several days later. I was looking at my pictures and came across this picture. I could not for the life of me remember where it was taken, so Adam and I went a picture hunt. We found it...again
We only made it to deck 13 on our tour, before heading back to our rooms to get ready to disembark.

Looking for Bears and Eagles. Saw lots of eagles but never any bears.

Our morning routine of hot chocolate and apple cider.
Approaching Juneau!
Views from our balcony!

Hello Juneau!
Met in the Royal Theater. Those with excursions had priority disembarking.
Heading down to the 2nd floor (which is usually roped off) to the gangway.

Setting foot in Alaska!

Waiting for our group to all arrive for our whale watching excursion.

I dropped my phone and it took a picture as it fell. The girls had a good laugh at this picture.
Heading to the whale watching boat. There were twenty of us on the excursion including two other families who were LDS. So we were in good company.

So tired!
This is a postcard but shows the boat we were on.
Heading out!
Watching for whales.
I spy a Disney Cruise Ship
I don't know what we did to deserve it but...we ran into a pod of 15 whales. We could not watch them fast enough. We'd be watching one and someone would say "here comes one on the other side of the boat" or "theres two at 3:00 and 5:00." They were everywhere. Our captain and tour guide kept saying this was the most they had seen in one day all season.

Sadie was singing "Little Mermaid" to them...
It worked!!

Co-Captains! Helping Captain Mitch!

The tails were my favorite!
At one point we had a whale swim right under the boat. The law is that the captain has to park the boat 100 feet from them. But they came within about 10 feet of our boat, so he actually couldn't leave until they were 100 feet away again.

Not only were the whales amazing, so were the views.

We also saw eagles and sea otters. We learned that otters hold hands at night so that they don't drift away from each other. Is that the sweetest thing ever?

After whale watching, we drove to and walked through a rain forest.

The trees were covered in moss.

So many mushrooms

Our trail ended at Mendenhall Glacier.
So Amazing!
Nugget Falls
Icebergs!

]
We were about 2 miles from it and could see about 3 miles of the 13 mile glacier.

Getting good vibes by touching a piece of the iceberg. The water was freezing!
Then we entered a fenced off portion that is populated with bears.
We were hoping to see a bear...we didn't but we did see...
a fresh paw print. So that was cool.

Back to the harbor to enjoy and explore Juneau on foot.

Our ship stood taller than most of the buildings!
Red Dog Saloon
Still has saw dust floors. Legend has it the owner put saw dust on the floor so if prospectors came in with gold in the pockets, they wouldn't hear it if it fell out and hit the floor.
So, so cute!!

We took the Tram to the top of Mt Roberts

View of our ship going up!

Sky Divers
Juneau
So Gorgeous!

Found my first totem pole!

Heading back down!
Walking back to the ship. Grandma and grandpa explored the town. Found the capital building and rode the tram as well. They were back on the ship when we came back and came out on their balcony and waved at us coming back.

Back on the ship and through security with our souvenirs,

Back on the ship, we could see the tram from the top deck.
That night we went to a Billy Idol Tribute Band.

It was so much fun! Sadie, Gentry and I ran on the dance floor and jumped up and down and danced! After the concert we wandered the ship.
Checked out the casino.
Calli and Levi had given Gentry $50 for her birthday to gamble on the cruise. (She was hoping it would be considered international waters and could gamble, but it wasn't) Calli and Levi gambled for her. They put all $50 on black...it was red. Lesson learned. Haha!
The two dining rooms on deck three.

The map at the American Icon Grill.
Amazing View of Juneau. We weren't set to sail until 10:00pm.

Front of the hot dog house.
Shuffle board

Climbing wall!
Deck 6 with all the life boats.
Royal Caribbean Logo.
Quiet Esplanade while in port.
The Wonderland Restaurant
At 10:00pm everyone went to bed while Adam and I went and watched the Love and Marriage Game Show. We were sure glad we did. It was awesome. The couples who participated became celebrities on the ship. It was so fun to see them here and there.
We loved it so much we told the kids all about it, we were excited when it aired on the cruise channel a few times so everyone could watch it. The newlyweds were a little annoying, the middle couple were hilarious and the older couple were so darling!...Stay tuned to me meeting them later on the cruise!
Came back to the room late, with the girls already asleep.
Good Night and Good bye Juneau.
We all loved Juneau. It was our favorite port!
