SKAGWAY
Skagway's morning started early. Again, we had an excursion and had priority disembarking.
Our excursion began at 10:00am but due to a recent rock slide, we had to tender into Skagway so we had to allow an extra 45 minutes to do that. It was a new experience.
On the Life Boats, tending to the pier.
The door we just came out of to load the life boat.
Heading up the gangway
Here's the huge rockslide right at the cruise docks.
Welcome to Skagway!
The first thing we did was find Morgan. She was so excited to have family come visit her. She met us on the pier and spent the entire day with us.
We rode the White Pass Railroad. It goes into Canada and then turns around. It was used by the prospectors back in the gold mining days.
Old mining cemetery
The entire round trip was about 3 hours. It was a little long and most of us got a nap but the views were incredible.
Adam spent the entire train ride out of the balcony. Morgan said she could not believe the weather. The sun was out which is a rarity and it felt so nice. She said most of the locals were hitting the lakes because it was such a nice day.
Cool spider web on the train
He got some great shots
The train car in front of us would rock back and forth. It was a bit jittery.
So cool!
Train across the way!
This bridge was built over a canyon and was renowned as an amazing achievement back in the day.
Welcome to Canada
Back on steady ground.
Grandpa bought all the boys White Pass Railroad hats
The crew with Morgan
In front of the train
So cute and so green.
Walking to a restaurant for lunch that Morgan recommended.
Fish Co.
The crew loved the fresh Alaskan fish and chips.
Adams new skull Fish Co. jacket
These berry trees were everywhere and so vibrant.
Adam and Levi
After lunch we went shopping, explored the 8 blocks that makes up Skagway, met Morgans boyfriend and was introduced as Morgans family to almost everyone in town:)
Our ship at the end of the street.
Snow Plow
Miner and his dog
More totem poles
Just so quaint and cute
"Family Friendly Peep Show"
Oh brother.
Stopped for some ice cream...in Alaska!
Grandma moved from the shade to the sun!
Adam's new Skagway hat
Had to stop at Klondike doughboy and get some fry bread. Another gem I had read about. Morgan's branch president was the owner.
This bar was decorated with bed pans...hope they were new.
Around 5:00pm we headed back to the ship. Morgan walked with us the whole way.
Back on the life boat to tender to the ship.
I wish so badly I would have pulled out my camera in time but as we were boarding the ship and going through security, grandpa got stopped. They wanded him and asked what was in his pocket. he pulled out a can of Dr Pepper. We teased him the rest of the day that he was trying to smuggle in a Dr Pepper.
Back on the ship!
Goodbye Skagway!
It was kinda funny, we were on Pacific time for most of the cruise but on the way to Alaska we crossed a timezone and gained an hour and on the way back we lost an hour, without great internet service our watches and phones were never correct. We never knew what time it actually was. Thank goodness for the Royal Caribbean app, that displayed "Ship Time"
The famous piano player would pop up all over the place. Here he is playing in the elevator. Haha!
Ran to do bumper cars!
So much fun!
Figuring out the butterfly wall!
Levi's note...haha! We all met up for dinner at the Windjammer and then went to a show by the “Nashville Tenors” They were great!
Goodnight Skagway. We tucked in early to be up early for Dawes Glacier. We heard people saw the northern lights that night...bummer.
